On Thursday P1&2 boys and girls were delighted to welcome Kim the vet (Clemmie's mum) from Parklands Vets in Portglenone. Kim told us about some of the different jobs vets have to do from calving cows to cleaning dogs teeth and carrying out operations. She showed us pictures of some of the equipment that she uses and told us about the different animals that she has treated from giant elephants to tiny hedgehogs. We had a quiz where we had to guess how many stomachs some farm animals had - we were all surprised to find out that llamas had 3 stomachs and cows and sheep had 4. We then looked at some x-rays of dogs and had to guess what was in their tummies, one had a toy dinosaur, one had a spoon and one had lots of little puppies.
We all learned lots from Kim and want to thank her for giving up her time to come in and for the prizes that she brought. Hopefully there will be some budding vets in years to come.
