P7 Pupils Take on Engineering Challenge Inspired by Nature
Today, our P7 pupils joined children from six other schools at the old Garvagh High School site for an exciting STEM challenge. As part of the initiative, KPS was paired with Hutchinson’s Engineering and given the unique task of exploring how nature can inspire innovative bus design.
Our pupils delved into the world of animals, studying their features and considering how these could be adapted to improve modern buses. For example, one group looked at the saltwater fish, noting its long, pointed nose—an ideal model for enhancing aerodynamics in bus design.
The event was hosted by the Hare’s Cooperative, and we are extremely grateful for their warm welcome and organisation. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to collaborate with peers from other schools, learn more about biology and engineering, and showcase their creative thinking.
Of course, the day wouldn’t have been complete without a close look at all the amazing projects on display—and a delicious ice cream treat to finish!
We’re incredibly proud of how our pupils represented KPS and hope to see some future engineers in the making!
