Town Tour
On Tuesday P5 rounded off their Shared Education programme for this year with a short tour of the town. They started at the Diamond where they found out about the Mercer’s Company and how the land around had been granted to them.
They then set out to see some of the buildings they had helped to finance. On the way they passed the Fairy Thorn Tree which has become synonymous with the town. The Rev Millar welcomed them into St Patrick’s Church and told them about how there has been a Christian presence here since the days of St Patrick. He also told them about the church which stands there now.
We then walked across the Horse Fair Hill to the St Vincent de Paul building where we saw the Community Quilt. It was created by women from the town over 15 years ago and shows many of the buildings around the town. It also features badges of all the schools and youth groups from that time and is a more unusual historical record of Kilrea. We finished our tour back at the Diamond where we waved good at to our friends for another year.
