Keeping Safe at the beach

14th May 2026

Two life guards from the RNLI came to Take 5 club to teach us about keeping safe on the water. They showed us lots of flags that you see when you’re on the beach and what they mean. They showed us some of the protective gear that they wear and two children got to model it all. They taught us how to float with your arms out wide and head up if you got into difficulties and if you got caught in a rip current you should try to swim to the side rather than against the current. They finished by saying that if you see someone in distress you shouldn’t rush straight in to help instead you should ring 999 and ask for the coastguards.
Hopefully everyone will stay safe on the beach this summer.
